Aluminum Slug Fabrication Process
The Exal Group manufactures punched aluminum slugs for conversion into aluminum containers in Europe. Through the slug making process Exal converts raw ingot aluminum into a form that can be extruded its container manufacturing lines. Exal slugs are typically made from 1000 series alloys with purity levels of 99.5 or above.
Exal manufactures high quality aluminum slugs at our Belfaux, Switzerland (outside of Bern) location and thorough a joint venture (50%) known as COPAL in Beaurepaire,France.
Aluminun slugs are the key raw material in the production of aerosol cans, aluminum bottles and other impact extruded packaging applications. Through our finished cans our slugs are an integral part of hundreds of consumer packaging products used throughout Europe .
The self manufacturing of aluminum slugs provides Exal customers with the latest in slug technology along with a guaranteed security of supply and increased flexibility in times of increased demand.
The Exal Group through Exal (Boxal) Europe consumes 100% of its 30,000 of tons slug making capacity internally. That capacity provides the company with slightly more than 50% of the slugs it requires for the manufacturing of impact extruded aluminum containers. Exal is the world's largest buyer of aluminum slugs. Self manufacturing of slugs allows the organization to be a well informed buyer, when purchasing requirements from external sources.
